A VIOLATION OF OUR RIGHTS HAS BEEN COMMITTED BY MINING CORPORATIONS WITH THE COMPLICITY OF CORREA’S GOVERNMENT
Now that the government of “the citizens' revolution" is ready to sign the famous mining contracts, it is worth asking the following question: Is this "revolution" worried about the Constitution and the rights of the people? And the answer is it is not. If it were, the government would not only care about "sealing the deal", forgetting that some fundamental rights have been violated by giving concessions, by the non-application of the Mandato Minero and by the "authorization" for the start of the exploitation of their "flagship plans".
First of all, and as we have been saying for years, there have never been any consultation processes to communities before giving these concessions or before giving the famous "authorization" licenses; in fact, the government has never acted according to the previous or current Constitutions.
Given this violation of human and constitutional rights, what all the accomplices of the transnational companies are doing is carry out a media campaign to cover up what is going on . They say that the companies have fulfilled all the "requirements", that their plans have been explained to people and therefore people are well "informed" and "happy" about mining. Of course, this is false!!
For instance, in the case of The Rio Blanco mining plan in Molleturo, they say the IMC Company has fulfilled all the "requirements" for the environmental license. What a lie! It’s really shameful! Molleturo has 72 communities and, according to some sources, it has about 10,000 inhabitants, and the famous "socialization" (information meeting) was only made in one community, The Rio Blanco community, which is located next to a mine. According to a report made by the Environment Ministry civil servants, there were 100 people present, including several "civil servants from different institutions ...., promoters of the plan and the consulting team”; this means that there were not one hundred inhabitants present, as it has been said. The majority of those who attended the consulting meeting were pro-miners who asked only a few questions, pretending that they had consulted the people and that "everyone was happy" And with that mess they say the "requirement" has been fulfilled and they go on with the procedures for the operating license. What a lot of rubbish!
